EXPO Elementary's Bjoraker Earns MESPA Division Award

The Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA) has announced that John Bjoraker, principal of EXPO Elementary, has been awarded the St. Paul Division Leadership Award. This honor recognizes Bjoraker’s outstanding leadership, his ability to foster a positive school climate, and his commitment to building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader community.

Bjoraker’s leadership at both EXPO and Farnsworth Elementary Schools has been defined by his focus on cultivating a supportive and inclusive learning environment emphasizing strong instructional practices and the creation of systems and structures that promote a learning environment for all students and staff to grow and develop in.

Through his efforts, he has created lasting partnerships with community organizations such as Amazeworks, Playworks, and Speaking Out Collective, which have enhanced the educational experience for all students.

One of Bjoraker’s significant achievements is collaborating with his school counselor to earn the RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) School of Distinction from the American School Counselors Association, a prestigious designation that highlights exemplary school counseling programs. His work in this area underscores his commitment to ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed.Reflecting his leadership philosophy, Bjoraker often draws inspiration from the words o Paul Wellstone: "We all do better when we all do better. " This quote embodies his belief in the power of collective effort and community building in education.

Beyond his work as a school principal, Bjoraker has been an active leader in MESPA, serving on the School of Excellence Committee, where he helps evaluate and recognize schools across Minnesota for their exceptional practices. He is also the current President-Elect for MESPA's St. Paul Division, further demonstrating his dedication to advancing the profession and supporting fellow principals.
