We regret to inform you that the Early Start Program will no longer be available to pre kindergarten through third grade students for the 2015-2016 school year.
The funding that made the Early Start program possible was through the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. The 21st CCLC grant is federal funded and is administered through Minnesota Department of Education. The grant supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children.
In 2014-2015 the St. Paul Public Schools – Community Education was awarded the Cohort 6 grant but designated the funding for grades 4th – 8th grade, in addition, it added two more grant sites Parkway Montessori and Hazel Park Preparatory Academy.
This direction has reduced the budget for our out of school time programming at Linwood Monroe Arts Plus. To support the grant goals we are forced to only provide funding for the 4th – 8th grade students.
This past year, ACES (Athletes Committed to Educating Students, http://www.aces4kids.org) joined Early Start and has made a significant impact helping achieve the grant goals including; helping support standards in core academic subjects through tutoring, providing enrichment and recreational time and mentoring to the 4th – 8th grade students. ACES will be returning to the Early Start program next school year. By June 1, 2015 more details about the program outline for 4th – 8th grade students will be available.
Discovery Club is SPPS Community Education’s fee based out of school time program. The Discovery Club at Four Seasons A+ Elementary School located at 318 Moore St., Saint Paul, MN 55104 is available for families looking for before school care (pre-k – 5th grade).
