Theaters of Learning are special elective classes that are offered two times a year. Theaters
allow students (and teachers!) to investigate a topic with a group
sharing similar interests, enriching the curriculum while enhancing
basic skill development. The classes allow learners to follow a
passion, take a risk or try something new. Multi-age classes allow learners to make new friends and meet teachers from across the school. Theaters are held for 30 minutes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for six consecutive weeks.
Learners
and their parents select Theaters from a catalog of as many as thirty
classes. The following examples are taken from a Theaters of Learning
Catalog offered during a Winter Session.
Grades: 4, 5, 6

Title: School Store

a team of 6 students who run the school store. You'll learn the basics
of retail sales by ordering supplies, advertising, creating displays,
serving customers and keeping records. We're looking for responsible
team players, good thinkers and reliable workers. This year's store
profits are being used to buy library literature sets and to help the
band program..
