Degrees and Certifications:
Heather is a school social worker and has been at EXPO Elementary since 2005 and worked in St Paul Public Schools since Fall 2000. She received her masters from University of Houston Graduate School of Social Work in Houston, TX. Prior to being a school social worker, she was an elementary school teacher in Houston Independent Schools with Teach for America teaching 5th, 4th and 2nd grades. She attended Hamline University and majored in Anthropology and French.
When Heather is not at EXPO she enjoys being outside, going on adventures as well as reading, cooking, playing tennis, golfing and traveling. Heather enjoys working with children and using creativity, mindfulness, team buiding, artistic expression to meet their needs. She is actively involved in the Minnesota School Social Workers Association as well as President of the Midwest School Social Work Council.
Heather lives in Minneapolis with her two daughters, Alison and Ella and their dog Lucky. She and her daughters enjoy spending time together, hiking, geocaching, paddleboarding, camping, playing tennis, going for walks, and creating delicious things in the kitchen. Heather's daughters attend school in St. Paul Public Schools as well.
Heather enjoys EXPO Elementary as an active membert of the school community both as a staff person and parent. She enjoys working with all the children and families at EXPO. Heather provides the mental health services at EXPO as well as supporting children and their families who maybe in transition, homeless or experiencing a crisis. She is able to meet with families in the community or they are always welcomes to visit with her at school. Heather runs the school-based mentor program, Project Connection at EXPO as well as emcees the BINGO at the school carnival, sells pizza at the school dance and loves to see all the kids and families at the annual Fun Run.
