    Greetings!

This past Monday, March 13 the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) for Saint Paul approved our two variances for the expansion project.  This moves our two campuses into planning and prioritization for phase one construction.  As I become aware of the logistics for this summer’s construction, I will communicate out to students, staff and families immediately.  Again, I want to reiterate the gratitude on behalf of our staff for the Advocates for LMAP and the many supporters who worked with us to gain the BZA approval.

Next week we host parent-teacher conferences at both campuses.  Conference times are as follows.

    • Tuesday, March 21 and Thursday, March 23 from 4:50 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
    • Friday, March 24 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Elementary conferences are scheduled as appointments.  Secondary or middle school conferences are arena style (sixth grade in the cafeteria and seventh/eighth graders will be in the gymnasium).  We will have interpreters here for each of our conference events.  We look forward to connecting with you at conferences.

This month we are excited for the return of the Mindfulness Residency at both campuses which supports our monthly theme for March, Mindfulness.  Students are being led by Yoga Calm experts from 1000 Petals, LLC. The facilitators are empowering students to find strength in breathing through key exercises or poses that also foster self regulation and self control.  To learn more about mindfulness or Yoga Calm, please visit the following website: http://www.1000-petals.com.

Lastly, congratulations to all of our students who performed at today’s Friday gatherings.  It was great to see so many parents in attendance at the upper campus.  I want to also acknowledge Mr. Xiong, one of our Bilingual EAs for collaborating with the second grade team to lead us in learning Hmong sayings (from a famous Hmong folk tale entitled Nine In One Grr! Grr! ) at the lower campus gathering.

    Go green wave!

    Respectfully,

    Bryan E. Bass, Principal

From the Principal

  • It is an honor to become a member of this outstanding school community. Linwood Monroe Arts Plus (LMAP) celebrates a rich history of arts-infused education for all learners.

As a long-time educator I have extensive experience in leading schools that embrace the arts. This experience has driven my belief in the power of the arts to transform educational outcomes for all students.

Most recently, I have served as principal of Crosswinds East Metro Arts and Science School in the East Metro Integration District. I have also served as principal of Brooklyn Center Junior/Senior High School, where I was a part of a leadership team that created an arts magnet program. This program twice won Magnet School of Excellence Awards from Magnet Schools of America.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College, a Master of Arts from Saint Mary’s University, and an Education Specialist degree and licensure from the University of Saint Thomas. I expect to complete the dissertation for a Doctor of Education degree at St. Cloud State University this autumn.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife Katherine and our two daughters, competing in events and races such as marathons and triathlons, and listening to live music.

I look forward to serving the LMAP school community as your new principal.

    Respectfully,

    Bryan E. Bass
